Process Changes:

Display Unavailable Courses

Learning Solutions will be activating an attribute that will be displayed for each Course in the My Courses module on the Blackboard Welcome Page that is unavailable .  "Unavailable Courses (for Students)”  will change the display from this:

my course current

To this (assuming today is Oct 15, 2014):

my course new

  • Class #9991 is set to ”Available - Yes”  but unavailable to students because today’s date is not with in the selected dates of the course duration (the past).
  • Class #9992 is set to ”Available - No”  so it is unavailable to students even though today’s date is with in the selected dates of the course duration.
  • Class #9993 is set to ”Available - No”  so it is unavailable to students.  It has no dates set for the course duration. This is the default for in person courses.
  • Class #9994 is set to ”Available - Yes”  but unavailable to students because today’s date is not with in the selected dates of the course duration (the future).

This setting change does not affect a User's ability to remove classes from the "My Courses” module.  Here is a knowledge base article on that topic.

The list will be more manageable if it sorted by terms.  Here is a knowledge base article on that topic.

Click thru IE Alert

Learning Solutions, the team that supports Blackboard Learn, Community & Content, continues to receive reports of intermittent problems with Internet Explorer from both students and Instructors.  A couple years ago, we started to recommend the web browsers Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Apple Safari.  We have added several articles to the Blackboard Knowledge base about IE.

Blackboard's official pages for browser support are located here:

Student: https://help.blackboard.com/en-us/Learn/9.1_SP_14/Student/015_Browser_Support/010_Browser_Support_SP_14

Instructor: https://help.blackboard.com/en-us/Learn/9.1_SP_14/Instructor/015_Browser_Support/010_Browser_Support_for_SP_14

Until recently, the Blackboard textual header included this statement of “Use of Internet Explorer with Blackboard is NOT recommended.  Please use Google Chorme or Mozilla Firefox.” This header has not convinced enough folks to change nor informed them of the realities of using IE.  To make sure folks understand the impact of their choice in web browsers,  we have included the above statement in the top header for those that are using IE.  Also, an alert box will display informing IE users of browser recommendations.  We hope that this will create an environment where more Blackboard Learn user are satisfied with their experience.
