Blackboard Collaborate Ultra is a real-time web conferencing tool that lets you join a virtual session anywhere you have internet service.

The below video provides an overview of the user experience in Blackboard Collaborate Ultra. It can also be accessed via this link: Blackboard Collaborate Ultra Overview

System Requirements

Supported Devices:

  • Windows and Mac Personal Computers
  • Google Chromebook
  • Microsoft Surface Pro devices provided one of the supported browsers (listed below) are being used and audio/camera devices work with those browsers. (Microsoft Surface devices running Windows RT are not supported.)

Operating Systems:

  • Windows 7+
  • Mac OS 10.9+

Browsers:

  • Google Chrome provides the best user experience

Note that hosting an "App Share" requires a Chrome extension provided by Blackboard.  Chrome Extensions are simple add-in modules in the Chrome browser itself.  They do not require a restart of the session or Chrome to function.  Users will be prompted to enable the extension the first time they use App Share or File Upload.

The extension can also be downloaded directly from: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/desktop-sharing/ajojghojfapedgfkjmhchgblmjfanggo

If you require more information please review our Ultra Experience - Installing the Chrome Desktop Sharing Extension Knowledge Base article.

For Instructors: Collaborate with the Ultra experience will not support the "App Share" feature for session presenters and moderators using the Safari, Firefox or Internet Explorer browsers as they do not yet support WebRTC. The use of video and audio features during a session will require Adobe Flash in these browsers.

  • Blackboard Collaborate Ultra only supports the Adobe Flash Player  Version 17.
  • The Flash requirement for audio, video and app share will be removed when each respective browser vendor (Apple, Mozilla and Microsoft) supports the WebRTC standards necessary for Blackboard Collaborate Ultra.

For Students:The Safari, Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers are fully supported for the participant experience. Blackboard Collaborate Ultra will utilize Adobe Flash for viewing and sharing audio and video, and viewing app share.
