How do I participate in a discussion board?
Answer
Participating in a Discussion Board Forum
Discussion board features within Blackboard allow students to communicate with one another while not requiring all students to be online at the same time. It's also a great way for students to collaborate in the learning process by reading, posting and replying to questions related to their class.
A few terms you will hear quite often when referring to discussion boards include the following:
Forum: A "forum" is a topic or subject where ideas and views can be exchanged.
Threads: The messages and replies being exchanged.
To post a message to a discussion board:
- Login to Blackboard using your student ID (as the username) and password.
- Click on the "Welcome Page" tab and select a course from the "My Courses" area.
- Select the "Discussion Board" button on the left within the side menu panel.
- Select the forum you wish to participate in.
- Select the "Create Thread" button.
- Enter the subject title.
- Enter the message you would like to contribute to the discussion.
- Click the "Submit" button.
To reply to a message thread within the discussion board forum:
- Select the forum you wish to participate in.
- Select the discussion thread.
- Select the "Reply" button.
- Add a message to the forum.
- Click "Submit." You'll see now that your reply has been added.
- Click "OK."
